GENRE STUDY COORDINATOR

At the direction of the Steering Committee, which approves the topic of the current ARRT genre study, the coordinator creates and proposes a logical plan to divide the genre chosen into an appropriate number of subgenres and begins to determine suitable assigned readings, titles and authors for each unit, consulting established print and online reference resources to research history and current trends in the genre.  The initial plan should be reviewed and approved by the Steering Committee before the first genre study meeting convenes.

Organizes and publishes a schedule of meeting dates and secures sites so that meetings are held in an organized and predictable manner.

Creates appropriate questions and gathers resources to facilitate the discussion of each subgenre with the goal of analyzing appeal and characteristics, important aspects of working with readers of the subgenre and the relationship of the subgenre to other works of literature.

Provides a report at the bi-monthly meetings of the Steering Committee on the progress of the genre study and answers any questions the Committee may have about the project.

Maintains a list of current members of the genre study including names, library affiliation, email address and other appropriate contact information so that communication may be facilitated.

Works closely with the designated Genre Study Notetaker to assure that findings of each meeting are captured and may be distributed to all members.

Plans and facilitates a wrap-up meeting to assure that conclusions will be summarized and captured at the end of the study.

Determines whether there will be a product produced after the study – for example, a bookmark, bibliography or other document to capture results.  Follows up as needed.

Shares appropriate material with ARRT Webmaster for inclusion on the ARRT Genre Study webpages throughout the study and at its completion.
